This year has been nothing but…crazy? to all of us, no matter what you do, I am sure 2020 has been such a ride for you too. But good news! Thanksgiving is around the corner, and I know that you want to relax and enjoy that delicious dinner with your family, so probably you’ll have to travel to join them on this special day.
If you are already making plans, don’t forget about your furry baby, it doesn’t matter if you have a dog, a cat, a guinea pig, a rabbit, or just some fishes, here are some tips to choose the best pet sitter for your best friend:
1.I hope you never have to go through any situation that requires getting an insurance company involved, but life happens, so make sure the pet care provider you choose has reputable insurance. Did you know that you can even ask for proof of coverage? A professional pet care provider will have no problem showing you their insurance card or a certificate of liability insurance. Here, in Chicawoof we work with Kennel Pro, a company with years of service and trusted by thousands of pet care businesses across the country.
2.What kind of certification/education does the sitter have? pet sitters should be pet lovers, but that’s not enough. Find out if they have any pet care training: Pet First Aid, CPR, etc. For our clients’ peace of mind, all Chicawoof dog walkers and pet sitters are pet first aid certified.
3.Don’t skip the meet and greet: most companies offer a free meet and greet, during this time make sure you provide your sitter with as much information about your pet, home access, key handling as possible. This is also a great time to ask the sitter specific questions like how long are they going to spend with your pet and how they plan to take care of your furry friend. Chicawoof provides a complimentary meet and greet to make sure everybody is comfortable before moving forward.
4.Make sure your sitter has undergone a background check. Chicawoof has a very strict policy, in this case, every single member of our team is required to pass a background check in order to start getting assignments, this is not negotiable.
BONUS: make sure you fully understand your pet care provider policies so you can have a pleasant experience. If you have any questions contact them and they will be happy to help.
Finally, please keep in mind 2020 has been such a difficult year for pet care providers, a lot of businesses haven’t even recovered yet, big companies make millions every year and for sure will survive this, so please consider supporting a small/local business this holiday season.
